Ben Stokes: England’s World Cup winning hero announces ODI retirement

Ben Stokes, the captain of England’s Test team, has decided to end his illustrious ODI career. He has declared his departure from the dying-slowly format in favor of concentrating on Test and T20s. The England all-rounder, who was their World Cup hero, will play his final game in the ENG against SA 1st ODI.

Ben Stokes stated, “I will play my last game for England in ODI cricket on Tuesday in Durham. I have decided to retire from this format. This has been an incredibly tough decision to make. I have loved every minute of playing with my mates for England. We have had an incredible journey on the way.”

With 104 ODI appearances under his belt, Stokes will play his final one on Tuesday against South Africa at the Seat Unique Riverside, where he will also call home.

Stokes has scored 2919 runs, including three centuries, and claimed 74 wickets since making his ODI debut against Ireland in 2011. He has been an inspiring skipper and led the ODI team to a 3-0 triumph over Pakistan in the Royal London Series last summer.

Stokes has played 104 games in his 11-year ODI career, totalling 2919 runs. He has 3 hundreds and 21 fifties at an average of 39.44 run in his ODI career. He hit a 98-ball 84 in the World Cup final of 2019 to force a super over against New Zealand.
