While the IPL’s 2021 season has yet to end, many people are already looking forward to the 2022 season. After all, the IPL will expand to ten teams next year with the addition of two new clubs. It would be interesting to observe how the addition of new franchises affects the T20 event, which has been an eight-team affair since 2014.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the IPL has featured more than eight teams. The 2011 edition of the showpiece tournament included ten teams, while the next two seasons featured nine clubs. Many famous bodies and business tycoons would be eager to secure ownership rights in the new teams if the BCCI decides to extend the league again.

With the upcoming franchise auction approaching, interested parties will need to determine their ideas and tactics as soon as possible. According to reports, the BCCI intends to complete the sale of two franchises before the second leg of the IPL 14, most likely in July, and interested parties have been given some indications as to what the final price would be.

The CEO of a firm, who’s interested in buying one of the two new teams said, “we understand the tender will be floated next month, we have been waiting for this for quite some time. We will not be surprised if 250 million is the base price”.

In addition, the IPL 2022 will feature a mega auction, with teams undergoing total overhauls. As a result, players who want to play in the IPL must perform well in their future T20 assignments. Players will have more opportunity to go under the hammer now that two more franchises have entered the picture.

Meanwhile, the IPL 2021 tournament, which was supposed to take place in April-May, was cancelled on May 4 due to the widespread COVID-19 virus. The season will continue on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates, with the remaining matches taking place there. The competition, however, will be followed by the ICC T20 World Cup, therefore many foreign players may opt out of the remaining matches.
