According to a report, the new cities that are favourites to join the 8 existing teams are Guwahati, Ranchi, Ahemdabad, Lucknow, Cuttack and Dharamsala. As per sources, Ahmedabad are favourites to become the first new team whereas Luckbow or Guwhati will probably be the second candidate.

There is a major reason as to why the board has taken the decision to shortlist these specific cities to become the candidates for the two new teams of IPL 2022. According to the data available, Star Sports that has the rights to broadcasts IPL has given an estimate viewership numbers. As per this data 65% of the total 4 billion minutes come from Hindi speaking cities.

Hence BCCI has kept this data in mind while shortlisting candidates as these cities could bring in substantial amount of viewership and add brand value to the tournament.

BCCI Official reveals the amount expected by the Shortlisted Franchises for the Two Spots in IPL 2022

With the Auction process for the two new team’s for IPL 2022 in the final stages, BCCI has set a minimum base price of 2,000 crores. Consequently, the board is expecting the teams participating in the auction go bonkers and at least bid a gigantic amount of 5000 crores.

A BCCI official has given hints to a verified source about the number of fixtures for IPL 2022 as well as the price that the board is expecting

“The BCCI is expecting anything in the range of 5000 crore if not more. There will be 74 IPL games next season and it’s a win-win situation for everyone. IPL teams are a great investment and have given the initial investors great returns. We don’t think base price of 2,000 Cr is too much and we expect to get 3000-3500 Cr per team”

It would be interesting to watch the bidding war between the different cities during auction. Comment below your thoughts about the shortlisted cities and also mention the candidates that you think will be a part of IPL 2022.
