IPL 2023 is set to be played on December 23 and for the tournament, BCCI has set December 15 as the last date for the players to register. It will be a mini-auction, unlike the previous year when it was a huge auction. Some franchises are also facing budget constraints. Players like Sam Curran, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes are the favourites.

The franchises have requested BCCI to change the auction dates as December 23 is very close to Christmas. They appealed to the board for advancing the auction date, and BCCI is likely to respond to the request by next week.

“December 15 is the player registration deadline. We expect some top players to enroll. As for the auction date, December 23 is the set date for now. We are discussing some franchises’ requests to advance the date. But there are other factors involved. Only after deliberation with all stakeholders, we will come to a decision,” a BCCI official told.

Many of the foreign players and staff won’t be available during that time due to Christmas. Almost all franchises have foreign coaching staff. Some of them may be enjoying holidays as well for which the teams want the auction to be advanced.

Currently, December 23 is the auction day in Kochi. 250 players are expected to go under the hammer and December 15, 5 PM is the last day to register.

This is a mini-auction and franchises are planning to spend some good cash in these mini-auctions.

Without the head coaches, it will be next to impossible to plan for the upcoming IPL event. Altogether, the teams retained 163 players and 85 of them were realized.
