BCCI again ignores the payment issues of 700 domestic cricketers. More than 700 cricketers were desperately waiting for the BCCI SGM for a decision to release their compensations. But surprisingly, BCCI did not even ready to discuss this matter.
The players were even told that BCCI would discuss the payment issue some other time. After that, it arose some questions regarding BCCI’s treatment towards their domestic cricketers. BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said, “The SGM was regarding IPL 2021 and T20 World Cup that has been discussed. But the compensation part needs a separate meeting. We have to discuss that with state associations before coming to a decision.”
The domestic players like last season were left empty-handed as the BCCI refused to discuss the players’ compensation for lost tournaments including the Ranji Trophy 2020-21. V.Koushik, a player from Karnataka said, “We have lost so much of cricket due to the pandemic and it has affected many financially. I am fortunate that I have a government job but still, it has taken a toll on players like me with no IPL contract.”
Many Indian cricketers live on domestic cricket, especially Ranji Trophy as it pays the most. Besides that, two white-ball tournaments (Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali) also provide some but it is Ranji Trophy that provides the most to the cricketers. But as the tournament is not conducting for the COVID-19 pandemic, the players are in big trouble.
