Bayern place £39 million offer for Kalidou Koulibaly

With David Alaba and Jerome Boateng set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, the German giants will be without two much needed first-team centre backs. The signing of Dayot Upamecano has given fans something new to look forward to next season, and there could be more.

According to Italian news outlet Tuttosport, Bayern Munich are set to move for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer and are preparing a bid worth £39 million to sign the Senegalese defender. Koulibaly’s agent and Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis met to discuss the offer made by the sextuple winners.

The centre-back was one of the most sought after players in the transfer windows of yesteryear, and was linked with moves to Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United who were all looking for a reliable defender.

With Niklas Sule struggling with injuries, and Bayern’s defense being shaky this time around, the addition of an experienced player like Koulibaly will make Bayern seemingly unstoppable. The likes of Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Sule are already at the club and will be competing with Upamecano and possibly Koulibaly for game time.

Napoli were previously demanding double the amount that Bayern have placed a bid for, but the team’s performance this season, coupled with the financial situation across the world could possibly force the Azzuri to accept the bid for their best defender.

But with that said, it is also worth noting that if Napoli do end up accepting a bid that low, other teams across Europe will also want to try and sign the player.
