Bayern Munich’s move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha has collapsed with the transfer window closing in Germany. The two clubs had reached an agreement over the structure of the deal, but the transfer fell through in the final stages.
The medical and media duties had been done for the player, but the transfer window shut down which prevented the Bavarians from completing the transfer. They were also in the running for Southampton’s Armel Bella-Kotchap and Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. But, they have been unable to complete all three transfers in time.
Bayern Munich fail to complete three major signings before transfer deadline
Bayern Munich sold Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool and loaned out Paul Wanner, and only have two midfielders in Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka to play in midfield. As a result, their squad will be lighter for the first half of the season unless they reinforce their squad in January.
There is a chance that they may sign free agents to make up the numbers in midfield. But, the major problem will only arise in case of an injury to one of their starting midfielders. Thomas Tuchel could also call up talents from the Bayern academy if things get out of hand.
The three players would have been valuable additions to Bayern’s squad for the coming season. But, now, they will have to manage their players effectively to avoid injuries.
