Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 win against Kaiserslautern in the DFB Pokal final ensured that they finished the season with a domestic double. The club has won both the Bundesliga title and DFB Pokal, in a historic season where they lost only one game – the Europa League finals against Atalanta this past weekend.
Xabi Alonso’s side were able to earn a difficult win in the DFB Pokal finals, with Odilon Kossounou sent off near half-time for a second yellow card. Granit Xhaka’s 17th minute goal was the difference maker, helping them see through a narrow lead.

At half time, Patrik Schick was replaced by Josip Stanisic, while Jonas Hoffman was replaced by Amine Adli, in a bid to balance out the team.
In spite of their personnel disadvantage, Leverkusen were able to dominate possession and exert themselves in the second half. Now, they have won only the fourth title in their history,
With Xabi Alonso set to stay for another season, Bayer Leverkusen need to try and retain their top players for another season to stay competitive. The Spaniard has had a brilliant start to his career in management, and it’ll be interesting to see how things turn out in his second season.
