Bayer Leverkusen defeated Heidenheim 2-1 in their Bundesliga fixture to continue their undefeated run in the season. Amine Adli and Jeremie Frimpong scored for Die Werkself as they registered yet another win to further their title challenge to dethrone Bayern Munich and end their 11-year streak.

And with the win, Leverkusen have also equalled Bayern’s ridiculous 32-game unbeaten run, which they went on in 2019/20 under Hansi Flick. That year, they went on to win the treble. But this time around, they find themselves at risk of going trophyless due to recent results.

If Xabi Alonso’s side continues to stay undefeated, they will surely win the Bundesliga given they have a five point advantage at the top of the table. And they have 12 games left to go in the season to see things through.

Leverkusen have a week long break before they take on Mainz in the Bundesliga, and with ample rest, they will be the favourites to come out on top once again.

The stats indicate that not only are Bayer Leverkusen solid on the attacking front, but they are also solid defensively. The performance from Victor Boniface, Florian Wirtz, fullbacks Alejandro Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong has been nothing short of remarkable this season, as the club is now very close to claiming the Bundesliga title while remaining unbeaten.

To achieve such a feat and end Bayern’s hegemony would be a huge feather in Xabi Alonso’s young senior managerial career. And it would make him an even more eligible candidate to manage a bigger club next season, where silverware is highly anticipated such as Liverpool or Bayern Munich.
