It’s no secret that Battlefield 2042 suffered when it first arrived in November 2021, but the game is now in a much better shape, with significantly more content than it did at launch after five in-game seasons. The military shooter’s release on Game Pass in November 2022 was a watershed moment for it.
Ryan McArthur, the experienced producer, wholeheartedly embraced initiatives such as Game Pass, considering it a noteworthy achievement in their schedule. Internally, they extensively deliberated on the right timing to make their game accessible to a broader range of people, fully aware of the crucial significance of presenting it in its finest form.
This drive galvanized the team as they worked relentlessly towards that goal, resulting in every season surpassing the previous one. Notably, they dedicated effort not only to the core aspects but also revamped all maps shipped with the game’s launch, a first-time achievement for them. Although the journey presented challenges, McArthur reminisces it as the most fulfilling in his career.
Acknowledging that mistakes are part of the process, McArthur emphasized the team’s commitment to reclaiming their expertise. Witnessing players return and giving them another chance has been a gratifying experience, affirming that they are steadily progressing toward their desired vision.
McArthur stated that the player base for Battlefield 2042 has grown with each new season, and the development staff has grown as well.
“It helped get their creative juices going,” he remarked. McArthur went on to explain that DICE is excited about the chance to make Battlefield 2042 the best it can be before the next Battlefield game is released.
Season 6 of Battlefield 2042 is currently in development and will be released later this year. Following that, EA studios all over the world are working on a “reimagination” of the Battlefield series.
Despite its difficulties, Battlefield 2042 was the fifth best-selling game in the United States in 2021. The Battlefield franchise was set to be brought to mobile, however, EA abruptly canceled Battlefield Mobile and shut down its developer.
