Barcelona have been asked to reduce their expenses by €200 million next season in order to be compliant with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules. The club have now outlined the plans that they have in order to achieve the cut in costs.
While player sales are no doubt an important part of revenue generation, they will also have to renegotiate salaries with their current players as well. And that is seemingly the most difficult barrier to overcome for the time being.
Barcelona’s financial lifeline: Plans to cut costs revealed
Two of the most significant ways in which the club is looking to cut costs is to save €30 million from day to day expenses. And another €30 million by cutting costs from their academy, which is considered one of the best in the world.
A sum worth €12 million will come in from the liquidation of Barca TV, while €10 million will be saved in salaries from non-sporting areas. The amount of income from player sales is projected to be around €70 million, unless a major sale goes through.
The Catalonian side is anticipating a decent income from winning La Liga, and qualifying for the Champions League next season. However, they were unable to perform as expected in the UCL and Europa League this season, which has made it difficult for them to secure their finances.
Lionel Messi, Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are on the Barcelona’s radar for this summer, and it now remains to be seen whether they can be signed within FFP rules.
