Barcelona President Joan Laporta had to produce 15% of the budget of the season to be sworn in as the president for the second time in his life. There were concerns as to how the newly re-elected Barcelona President would produce those funds, and details have now emerged regarding the breakup of the funds assembled by Laporta.

Laporta himself acted as a guarantor for 15 million euros, of which 10m euros are with the help of a friend whose identity remains hidden. As per La Vanguardia on Sunday, a total of 60m euros has been guaranteed by directors, with half of that coming from Jaume Roures.

Meanwhile, Audax Renovables will back up 17.3 million (Jose Elias 9m euros and Eduard Romeu 8.3m euros), Antonio Escudero 1.3m euros and Jordi Llaurado 1m euros.

It is Laporta’s 15m euro investment that is attracting the most interest, however, due to the secrecy of the money which has come from overseas.

The new President was the majority’s choice after he secured twice as many votes as Victor Font, his closest competitor in the run for the vacant post. One of the main targets for Laporta will be to convince Lionel Messi to stay at the club and prepare a sporting project that will be convincing enough for the Argentine to stay at the club following the fiasco last summer where he handed in a transfer request via burofax.

There is a positive feeling in and around the club after their 1-6 victory over Real Sociedad despite their elimination in the Champions League.
