Barcelona will have to pay €5m to Liverpool if Coutinho wins the Champions League for Bayern Munich

Barca flop Philippe Coutinho was loaned out to Bayern Munich after his poor form at the Camp Nou and incidentally, both of the teams met in the quarter-final stage of Champions League on Friday night. Also, in that match, Barca was humiliated by a massive 8-2 scoreline and Countinho ended up scoring 2 goals and provided an assist as well.

He came on in the 75th minute of the Champions League quarter-final tie. The score was 5-2 when he came on the pitch. He gave an assist to Lewandowski and scored another two goals himself in the 85th and 89th minute. He completed the humiliation of Barcelona as Bayern Munich won by 8-2 but he didn’t celebrate any of his goals against his parent club as a sign of respect.

Now, when the Brazilian was signed for €142m by Barcelona in January 2018, there were numerous add ons in his contract and according to one clause, if Coutinho won the Champions League in either 2018/19 or 2019/20 seasons, Barcelona would have to pay about £4.5m to Liverpool. The funniest thing about the contract is that there’s no limitation as such whether he wins it for Barca or Bayern.

So, this will be another headache for Barcelona who have been already sick with their pathetic season, and financially they are hurt as well. Now, if Bayern Munich does end up winning the Champions League, which they most likely will, provided their amazing form this season, Liverpool will do end up getting a sweet €5m or £4.5m cash from Barcelona out of nowhere.
