We published an article yesterday that talked about Barcelona extending their talks for the deadline of the implemented wage reduction for the players of the club.Â
While not all have accepted the decision of the board without argument, Gerard Pique is among those who understood the situation and is willing to help the club by taking a pay cut for the time being.
The club announced a contract extension for the defender till 2024 recently, and it has been touted that the Catalonian centre back will take a pay cut for now. However, his efforts will be compensated and the finances will be reimbursed in the days to come when the club achieves some stability from the monetary side of things.
Barcelona have a wage bill that exceeds €230 million per year. Most clubs in the world do not meet a valuation of that figure.
Having so many world class players at their disposal, it only seems fitting that a heavy investment be made in the talents that represent the club every single week at the highest level.
While their net debt has doubled since 2019 to about €440 million, the club are still developing their stadium and will be counting on Gerard Pique to help them out in this dire situation.
The centre back was also key in breaking through Barcelona’s sponsorship deal for Rakuten and will now help the club out by negotiating deals between the club and financing companies.
The project will be looking to extend the capacity of fans that can attend games at Camp Nou to more than 100,000 and the project will take about €750 million to complete, a figure double that projected half a decade ago.
Goldman Sachs will be the ones heading the finances as of now, providing a sum of €150 million per year.Â
