It was recently revealed that Bayern Munich are not planning to turn Joao Cancelo‘s loan deal permanent from Manchester City. Even though the Portugal international has made an impact in some games, he isn’t deemed to be the right fit for Julian Nagelsmann’s system.

And this has caused him to be sat on the bench for their last few games. Cancelo is not happy with the way things are turning out, since he left City in search of more game time. However, Nagelsmann prefers Josip Stanisic as the preferred option at right-back, while Alphonso Davies is his choice on the left.

Barcelona emerge as potential suitors for Joao Cancelo this summer

Barcelona have emerged as one of the clubs interested in signing Cancelo this summer. The club plays a traditional 4-3-3 system, and could be the right option for him sporting-wise.

🚨 Barcelona are interested in signing João Cancelo, however, they find it weird that both Man City and Bayern don't want him in their starting XI.

They want to find out more about his attitude and mentality before beginning negotiations.

However, their finances are in a difficult spot since they will have to sell players and raise around €170 million in sales before signing new ones. As a result, the club is looking at the possibility of a loan deal for the coming season.

Joao Cancelo isn’t the only Manchester City player linked with a switch to Barcelona. Aymeric Laporte is also rumoured to be interested in moving to Camp Nou at the end of the season. But the same constraint applies in his case as well.

It remains to be seen how Barcelona will navigate their transfer business this summer. They will not be able to activate any more levers, and could be forced to let go of some players.
