Ansu Fati returned to the pitch for Barcelona this weekend, and scored late to help the team win 3-0 against Levante. Despite being brought on as a substitute, his presence on the pitch during the second half of the game gave the team what they were missing previously.

The 18-year-old was sidelined with a serious injury for 10 months, and faced numerous setbacks on the road to recovery. But now, the youngster is back and has been given the legendary number 10 shirt worn by the likes of Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho previously.

In his first game back, the player finished with conviction and fans will only hope that he can continue to bring his quality to the team. The La Masia graduate only has one year remaining on his current deal with Barcelona, and the club have the option to extend his deal till 2024, which they intend to do.

But, with Messi and Griezmann off the wage bill, Barcelona have gained the liberty to go ahead and offer Fati a better contract. The Blaugrana are now planning to extend Fati’s contract beyond 2024, and want to offer him a better salary in recognition of his talents. He also has a massive release clause in his current contract, just like most La Liga contracts, and no club will be able to pay that much for the young winger.

Fati is the undisputed future of Barcelona, and keeping him at the club for the upcoming years is no doubt a top priority for the Spanish team.
