Barcelona still owe €115 million in transfer fees

Barcelona are slowly improving financially under Joan Laporta, having reduced their overall debt to other clubs by 28.4%. However, their total debt amount is a reported €115 million.

The official announcement of the financial situation is to be on Wednesday, by Fran Reverter of the Barcelona board. However, the total money that Barcelona still owe in transfer fees has been leaked prior to the announcement.

According to 2Playbook, a sum of €39 million is owed to Juventus for Miralem Pjanic’s signing, €32 million are owed to Ajax for the purchase of Frenkie de Jong, another €16 million euros to the Dutch club for Sergino Dest and €13 million are still due to Liverpool for Philippe Coutinho’s signing.

Pjanic is no longer at Barcelona, having moved to Turkey this summer. The Spanish club have also engaged in a lot of sales this summer with the likes of Jean-Clair Todibo, Konrad de la Fuente, Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Francisco Trincao and Firpo Junior all leaving the club in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona’s wage bill has been reduced drastically as well, with the current amount of €97 million over €300 million less than their previous wage cap set by La Liga.

The club have suffered a shaky start to the new season, and despite rumours that Ronald Koeman could be sacked soon, Joan Laporta has confirmed that the Dutchman will continue to stay at the club for the remainder of the season since he is a legend of the club from his playing days.
