The Spanish FA is purportedly all set to investigate the Barcelona star’s comments, Gerard Pique in a recent interview as he shared his thoughts on the refereeing in Spain and controversially claimed that the match officials favour Real Madrid in a withering rant.
While reacting to the reports, Pique said that many former referees in Spain were Real Madrid fans. The star defender said that if La Liga referees supported his side’s arch-rivals and would “unconsciously” decide their way.
Speaking in an interview, he stated that “The other day a former referee said that 85 per cent of the referees are from Madrid.”
“How are they not going to whistle in favour of Madrid.”
“Even unconsciously, how are they not going to give more for one side than the other?”
“I respect the professionalism of the referees and I know they try to do their best job, but when a moment of doubt comes.”
The claim made by Pique doesn’t necessarily add up to this aspect that this season the Catalan giants have been awarded 12 penalties to Real’s three. And most important, both the clubs have been shown the same number of yellow cards, that of 36, and also have had one player red-carded.
The result of his remarks about officials favoring Real can prove wrong for him, as the Barca star could face a ban between four and 12 games, and also according to reports from the Spanish outlet Diario Sport, he could be fined too. Along with this, he could be also fined from, ranging €600-€3,000 if he is found guilty of breaching guidelines.
However, Pique is currently out of action after sustaining a knee injury against Atletico Madrid last November.
