Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has come in for heavy criticism in recent times. The players including captain Lionel Messi along with the fans are unhappy with the way the club is being run.
Bartomeu clearly doesn’t have a good relationship with Messi. The Barcelona board has been accused of paying ‘i3ventures’ for leaking negative news about the club captain and blaming him.
Messi is like the leader of the club. He usually used to stay quiet on the board matters but this board has handled the matters wrongly. The club conversations shouldn’t be leaked to the media, leave alone negative false claims. This thing has hurt Messi.
Messi is also not convinced with the future project of the club. Barcelona’s transfer market strategy has been shocking. Messi and the other big lads in the club clearly wanted Neymar back at Barcelona but the board hasn’t been able to bring the Brazilian back. Barcelona clearly lacks wingers but they have repeatedly signed more strikers and midfielders, the current example being Braithwaite and Pjanic.
Messi is arguably the best player on the planet. He always wants to win and end each season with silverware. So he wants some big changes at the club in order to get back to winning ways.
Barcelona are one of the fewest clubs still run by fans. ‘Socios’ are the fans who vote in club matters and presidential elections. Now, these Socios are planning to pass ‘a vote of no confidence’ against Bartomeu and conduct the Presidential election this summer, which was scheduled to happen in 2021.
Socio member Josep María Cremada told Cadena Ser: “We need almost 18,000 signatures. We are a transversal group, with no one behind us. The club’s management by the board is totally unacceptable. We already have between 2,000 and 5,000 signatures for the motion.”
The Socios want to remove Bartomeu and appoint the new president for a term of 6 years with immediate effect.
Lionel Messi has also reportedly contacted the other presidential candidate, Victor Font to know about his plans and objectives about the club. Messi is frustrated with Bartomeu and wants Bartomeu to be replaced. It seems the Socios are going to grant Messi his wish.
