Barcelona are eyeing up an attacking talent double swoop in January, and in 2022 with Raheem Sterling and Dani Olmo on the list for the Blaugrana.
The Spanish club struggled financially this summer, and their overall wage budget is only a fraction of their arch rivals’, Real Madrid. The estimated payout is under €100 million, which prevented them from re-signing Lionel Messi after his contract expired with the club.
Raheem Sterling has been linked with the club over the last few weeks especially since he has fallen out of favour at Manchester City. Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus are being deployed ahead of the England international, and Sterling is no longer an undisputed starter under Pep Guardiola.
The winger’s contract with Manchester City expires in 2023, and the Premier League winners are yet to open negotiations about a new deal. So, they could end up cashing in on the opportunity if Barcelona present a decent offer for him.
Dani Olmo was on Barcelona’s transfer list this summer as well, and though a bid was made for him, it was very late in the transfer window. Olmo himself has commented that he knew very little about the offer made by his boyhood club. On the deadline day, Antoine Griezmann left for former club Atletico Madrid and Barcelona ended up signing Luuk De Jong as a replacement from Sevilla.
However, Barcelona have time on their side and are slowly improving financially. By the time January comes around, they could have either man in their team. And by next summer, both of them could be donning the red and blue shirt.
