Barcelona identify Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as priority striker option for 2023

Barcelona have identified Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as one of the main targets to bolster their centre-forward position. While Robert Lewandowski remains the first-choice at the club, a reliable backup option has been deemed necessary to cope with the number of games and the pressure.

Aubameyang is very likely to leave Chelsea at the end of the current season. He has barely been played since joining last summer, and the short-term move has not worked out for any parties, it seems.

Brazilian starlet Vitor Roque has been linked with Barcelona as one of the options. But, the sizable transfer fee that he would command has made it difficult for the Spanish side to go after him.

They also have other transfer targets such as Inigo Martinez, Ilkay Gundogan and Lionel Messi that are all key options. As a result, paying a transfer fee while also cutting down on their expenses by €200 million could be too big of a difficulty to solve.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was pictured at Camp Nou, with his former teammates, a few months back. The Gabon striker has always maintained a great relationship with the club and the authorities, and looks likely for a return considering that Chelsea will let him go for free, or at least for a very low fee.
