Barcelona looking to replace Coutinho with Dani Olmo in January

Barcelona are planning their business ahead of the January transfer window, which is only days away. The team is in a very difficult state, and a number of fringe players need to be offloaded to make room for fresh talents.

Philippe Coutinho is one such player whom Barcelona are desperate to get off their books. The Brazilian was signed in 2018 for £145 million, making him the third most expensive player in the history of football.

But the gamble has not paid off for the Spanish giants. Coutinho has dealt with a number of recurring injuries at Camp Nou, and he has not been the same player he was at Liverpool. Barcelona shipped him out on loan for the 19/20 season to Bayern Munich, with whom he won the treble. The situation has been the same after his return, though, and Barcelona are now looking to cut their losses.

Philippe Coutinho’s Barcelona career is set to end

He has been offered to Premier League clubs Tottenham and Newcastle United ahead of the January transfer window. He formerly played for Liverpool in England, and could now feature for another club.

RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo is being rumoured as a replacement for Coutinho, according to El Nacional. The Spanish international came through the Barcelona academy before moving to Dinamo Zagreb, and subsequently, RB Leipzig. But, the team might only have £26 million to spend in the upcoming window.

And if that is the case, they will have to wait for more funds to sign their former player.
