Barcelona learn new evaluation date for economic viability plan for Messi transfer and more

Barcelona are awaiting a response on their economic viability plan in the middle of the coming week. The club has submitted their proposal to La Liga in order to get clearance to register new contracts for their current players and sign new players.

The previous expected date was May 19, but it has now been pushed back by a few days. The plan is key to them meeting the Financial Fair Play restrictions for the coming season, for which the league body has asked them to cut down the wage bill by €200 million.

The club is yet to register new contracts for Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Marcos Alonso, Sergi Roberto and Inaki Pena. Although official announcements have been made for their renewals, they haven’t been registered with La Liga. For this reason, Gavi had to move back to his number 30 shirt from number 6 in the middle of the season.

Barcelona are also planning to sign Inigo Martinez, Ilkay Gundogan and Lionel Messi on free transfers this summer. But for that to happen, they will have to gain approval for their economic viability plan first. If it isn’t approved by La Liga, then the transfers will not be possible.

Even though Messi himself is keen on a return to Barcelona, it will need to be financially viable for Barcelona in compliance with FFP rules.
