Barcelona is currently considering a deal for Arthur Cabral, the Brazilian forward recommended by Deco

FC Basel striker Arthur Cabral has been highlighted as a possible target for Barcelona in the forthcoming transfer window.

Injury and conditioning issues have plagued the Catalans, jeopardizing their hopes in La Liga. Indeed, Ousmane Dembele has only played once this season, while Ansu Fati has had two new ailments since returning from a long-term injury that kept him out for nearly a year.

Looking for the Brazilian Striker

Sergio Aguero, for example, did not play for a few months after joining Barcelona in the summer. The Argentine has been sidelined indefinitely owing to a heart problem only a few games into his rookie season. Barcelona has been left short-handed in the attacking unit while Martin Braithwaite recovers from a major injury, something new manager Xavi Hernandez is determined to rectify.

As a result, Barcelona has been connected with a slew of forwards coming into the January transfer window, with FC Basel’s Arthur Cabral the most recent name on the Catalan giants’ wish list.

Cabral spent a brief period at Palmeiras after coming through the ranks at Ceara SC before joining FC Basel in the summer of 2019, first on a loan transfer that was converted permanent last year. Since then, the Brazilian has had 61 goals and 17 assists in 99 appearances for the Swiss giants, with the Brazilian in particularly good form in the 2021/22 season.

Cabral has already scored 23 goals and provided eight assists in just 24 games this season, causing clubs all across Europe to take notice of his goal-scoring skills. Southampton in the Premier League has expressed an interest in him, while Barcelona has joined the race for his signature.

According to the source, the Blaugrana have recruited former star Deco’s assistance in mediating player discussions, with the former Portuguese international already in contact with Cabral’s management about a possible move. Barcelona’s only problem is their financial predicament, which prevents them from making significant gains in the January transfer window.

A loan with an obligation to buy could be explored, according to the report, which also specifies an €8 million transfer fee for the Brazilian. It’s now up to Barcelona to determine whether to pursue Cabral or explore other options to bolster their strike force.
