Xavi Hernandez is set to leave Qatari club Al Sadd, as he will not be renewing his contract. Barcelona are on alert and could try to bring their former captain back to the club at the end of the season.Â
This isn’t the first time that Xavi has been linked with a return to Camp Nou. Following the dismissal of Ernesto Valverde, Xavi was one of the candidates considered for the managerial post before Quique Setien was appointed as the head coach of the first team. He, of course, did not have a very long or fruitful spell at the club and was replaced by Ronald Koeman.Â
Choosing to stay at Al Sadd for the 20/21 campaign, Xavi guided the club to the league trophy as well as the Qatari Cup. It is unclear as to whether Xavi will be appointed as the head coach of Barcelona or will be given a directorial position.
Ronald Koeman has done a good job of making Barcelona title contenders this season, and already has silverware to show for in the form of the Copa del Rey that the Catalonians won a month ago.
Barcelona are currently in a heavy rebuilding state, with Joan Laporta being tasked with turning around the severe financial debt of the club, which is valued at over €1 billion. A change for the first team coach might not be the best option just yet, for the sake of stability and Koeman’s experience also makes him a better fit for the job right now.
