Barcelona have rejected an offer from French club RC Lens for their young central defender, Mikayil Faye. The player is considered a vital part of their future project, and the club intends to keep him at the club so that he can grow into the first team.
Faye joined the Spanish giants in the summer, making the move from NK Kustosija for a fee worth €4.5 million. He has featured regularly for the club’s development team in the Spanish Primera, making 17 appearances. And aged 19, he is soon expected to get minutes in the first team.
Barcelona reject RC Lens’ offer for Mikayil Faye
Faye’s ambitions primarily revolve around making it to the Barcelona first team. Under Rafa Marquez and Barcelona Atletic, a promotion to the second division could also be a factor in getting him to stay.
So far, only Lens and Eintracht Frankfurt have shown interest in signing the youngster. And he has been clear about the fact that he wants to play regularly.
Unless an offer of considerable size arrives, he seems set to stay exactly where he is. And eventually, he could follow in the footsteps of current vice captain Ronald Araujo, who also made his way through the B-team.
With Xavi leaving the first team in the summer, Mikayil Faye could have an outside opportunity especially if there is a shake-up in the squad and the club relies on their academy to bring through new talents.
