Barcelona have announced that their director, Mateu Alemany, will be leaving the club on June 30. The 60-year-old has been with the Catalonian side since 2021 and has helped with transfers during a very challenging time for the club.
But now, he will be leaving to pursue a new project which will likely be with Aston Villa in the Premier League. The Midlands club have made a formal proposal to the director, and there is a strong chance that it could be accepted in the coming days.
Mateu Alemany to leave Barcelona for Aston Villa
“Alemany will end his time at the club on 30 June to begin a new project — despite having a contract until 2024”, an official statement from Barcelona read.
“FC Barcelona will shortly announce changes in the football executive structure.”
“Therefore, despite formally leaving the Club on 1 July, thanks to an informal agreement, Mateu Alemany has committed himself to complete the first team’s transfer business this summer, even if it should be at the final moments of the transfer window.”
Alemany will be overseeing Barcelona’s transfer business this summer even though he will be leaving on July 1. The director is very tempted by the proposal of working together with Unai Emery in England. The former Villarreal boss has helped revive Villa, taking them from 14th to 7th in the table. And together, they could build the club back into one of the top teams in the division.
