Barcelona have reportedly opened talks with Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger for a free transfer in the summer. The Germany international’s contract with the London club runs out at the end of the season, and he will then be a free agent.
The Spanish giants have all but officially confirmed the arrival of Andreas Christensen, and have also made an offer to Cesar Azpilicueta. And now, they might recruit all three central defenders that Chelsea have in one transfer window.
Antonio Rudiger in talks with Barcelona for potential free transfer
Mateu Alemany, the sporting director of the club, spoke with Rudiger’s agent on Wednesday night for three hours. While nothing has been finalised between the two parties yet, it is worth noting that contact has been made about his signing.
As of right now, Chelsea are unable to renew Antonio Rudiger’s contract. They will have to wait until the club is sold and the new owners are in place to fully agree a new contract with their defender. The player has been quite vocal about his love for the club and the city, and is open to staying on.
However, Chelsea will have to make the right financial offer to the German to keep him satisfied and committed for the coming years.
Alongside Christensen, Barcelona have also completed the signing of Franck Kessie from AC Milan. And by the time the summer transfer window comes around, they could have agreed a deal with Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui too.
