Barcelona and Juventus are set to face off in the 56th Joan Gamper Trophy and will host fans once again, after 17 months with no spectators.
The game is set to be held on 8th August, ahead of the new season. Camp Nou will be filled up at 20% capacity, which works out at 19,869 spectators according to Barcelona’s official website. Moreover, the fixture is a double header which will see both the men’s and women’s teams go up against each other in subsequent days.
For fans, this fixture pits Lionel Messi against Cristiano Ronaldo yet again, after their showdown in the Champions League last season. Juventus were clear winners when they made the trip to Camp Nou last season, winning at the stadium 3-0. This is the second time that Barcelona will face the Bianconeri in the Joan Gamper Trophy, having previously done so in 2005.
The match was played out to a 2-2 draw the last time they met, but this time brings an entirely different set of players. However, the opportunity of seeing the two greatest players of all time is the biggest part of the announced fixture.
Barcelona women will also have a chance to make their mark on the women of Italy after winning the treble last season in dominant fashion. The two sides met in the round of 32 in the 19/20 Women’s Champions League, which was won by the Blaugrana. The match brings a chance for revenge for Juventus, and a scope for Barcelona to boost their confidence even more ahead of the new season.
