Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia has been strongly linked with a move back to Barcelona all summer. According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs are currently in talks over the Spaniard.
While Garcia has been quite open about his desire to return to Catalonia, an agreement between the clubs regarding the defender’s valuation must be reached before realistic talks about his move to Spain can take place.
With the departure of club legend, Vincent Kompany, Eric Garcia has seen a fair amount of game time following the lockdown. However, following the signing of Ruben Dias from Benfica, it is unlikely that the Spaniard will be the first choice ahead of the Portuguese Centre back.
Hence imitating Gerard Pique by asking for a move back to Barcelona might be the smartest thing for Garcia. Especially considering that Barcelona are undergoing a rebuilding phase under Ronald Koeman.
The youth are at a significant advantage whenever there needs to be a change of scene at a club. To Garcia’s advantage, he has time on his side and can be the heir to Pique at his former club.
The La Masia graduate moved to Manchester City in 2017 and has shown glimpses of his talent under one of the best Barcelona managers ever, in Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola is Barcelona through and through, and should the clubs agree on a transfer fee for the 19-year-old, it is likely that the tactician will not stop the young man from fulfilling his dreams.
However, in the event that the clubs don’t reach an agreement, we might still see Garcia at Barcelona. But the only difference will be in the time of the transfer.
The Spaniard only has a year left on his contract at Manchester and has been reluctant to sign a new one.
Should City not cash in on Garcia now, they could lose him for nothing next summer.
