Barcelona have reached an agreement to extend Pedro’s contract with the club until June 2026. The final clauses and salary has all been agreed and the paperwork will be completed in the upcoming hours or days. Pedri only had one year remaining on his current deal, and Barcelona have gone ahead and tied him down to Camp Nou for the next half decade.
The new release clause in his contract is around €1 billion, which practically makes it impossible for any club to sign him by paying that amount. The official announcement can also be expected in the next few days.
A year after making his debut for Barcelona, Pedri has established himself as one of the most important young players in the team. Not only did the midfielder help Barcelona win the Copa del Rey at the end of the previous season, but he also shined for Luis Enrique’s Spain squad in Euro 2020. In recognition of his efforts, he was also named the young player of the tournament as Spain progressed to the semi-finals.
After playing the Euros, Pedri went to Tokyo to take part in the Olympics as part of the Spanish national team. The midfielder helped Spain get the silver medal as they came up short against Brazil in the finals of the tournament.
Having tied the youngster down to the club for a number of years, Barcelona can breathe easy knowing that they have one of the best young players in the world in their team.
