Barcelona defeated Juventus in the Joan Gamper Trophy last night with a 3-0 scoreline at the end of the game. The match was held at Estadi Johan Cruyff, Barcelona’s training ground with the majority of both first teams starting the game.
Max Allegri opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Ronaldo and Morata up front, while Juan Cuadrado was given a more advanced wide role alongside Bernardeschi. Ronald Koeman, on the other hand, fielded a 4-2-3-1 with Martin Braithwaite leading the line. Antoine Griezmann, Memphis Depay and Yusuf Demir played right behind the Dane.
The scoring began early, with Memphis Depay slotting past Wojciech Szczesny in the 3rd minute to give Barcelona the lead. The home team remained on the front foot for the majority of the first half. Ronaldo and co managed to test the goalkeeper on a few occasions, but their efforts were parried away by Neto.
At half time, Barcelona were ahead by 1-0 and the second half brought about more chances for them. Juventus put in a better performance in the second half, with Federico Chiesa and Dejan Kulusevski leading the attack from wide positions. However, Martin Braithwaite doubled Barcelona’s lead with a headed effort.
Riqui Puig scored the last, and best goal of the game, curling the ball in from the edge of the penalty area. The youngster played like he has something to prove, and hopefully, we will see more of him this season.
Juventus have a friendly lined up against Atalanta next while Barcelona start their La Liga season against Real Sociedad.
