Barbora Krejcikova has won the Wimbledon Women’s Singles Championship, defeating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in three sets. The scoreline read 6-2, 2-6 and 6-4 in favour of the Czech.

The 31st seed produced a remarkable performance to claim the second singles grand slam title in her career after the 2021 French Open. Krejcikova has had a wealth of success in doubles competition, but her brilliance now extends to the singles format as well.

“I think nobody believes that I got to the final and I think nobody is going to believe that I won Wimbledon,” Krejcikova said. “I still cannot believe it.”

Between the Australian Open and Wimbledon, the 28-year-old suffered a number of setbacks through illness and injury. But, she produced a remarkable comeback to turn things around and leave England with the Wimbledon title.

Barbora Krejcikova’s highest singles rank came in 2022, when she was the world number 2. And a significant boost can now be expected after her win in the final. The final was a nail biting affair, but Krejcikova showed incredible composure to hold on to the serve and capitalise on her opponent’s errors to go ahead and win the final set.

When was Krejcikova number one in doubles?
