Scoring a hat-trick happens every once in a blue moon for the top players. And, only four players in the history of the Champions League have been able to score consecutive hat-tricks. In this article, we will be taking a look at the four iconic players who have been able to achieve this feat. 

4 players that have scored back-to-back hat-tricks in the Champions League

4. Luiz Adriano (2014-15) 

Luiz Adriano played for Shakhtar Donetsk at the time, and was the first player in the history of the competition to score back-to-back hat-tricks. Adriano scored five goals against Belarusian champions BATE Borisov in the first meeting of the group stage, and went on to score a hat-trick in the reverse fixture. 

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (2016-17) 

The all-time highest goalscorer in the Champions League is next on the list. His first hat-trick came against Bayern Munich in a 4-2 quarter final victory. The Portugal captain then scored three against Atletico Madrid in the semi-final to achieve this feat. 

2. Lionel Messi (2016-17) 

Messi’s first hat-trick came in the group stage, against Celtic, in a 7-0 win. The Argentine then scored against Manchester City in a 4-0 demolition. In the 2016/17 season, he had 10 goals in the group stage itself. 

1. Karim Benzema (2021-22) 

Karim Benzema is the most recent player to achieve the extraordinary feat. The French forward first scored three in the second half of their second leg Round of 16 clash against PSG to turn around a 2-0 deficit. He then scored a hat-trick against defending European champions Chelsea to join the elite club.
