Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte could leave the club this summer, as per Fabrizio Romano. The centre-back has had limited opportunities under Pep Guardiola this season, playing for a total of 1219 minutes across all competitions, and making only seven appearances in the league.

One of the main reasons that he could end up leaving is due to the club’s pursuit of Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian only recently signed a contract extension with RB Leipzig, but is attracting interest from some of the top clubs in the world. City face competition from Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid for the young defender.

Injuries have played a part in the former Athletic Club defender not getting enough minutes. But, the form that Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake have shown this season has made them very difficult to drop for the manager.

As a result, the Spain international could leave the club in search of regular playing time and a better role in the squad. Barcelona have been linked with Aymeric Laporte’s signature, but will have to sell first to generate funds. The defender has been linked to Barcelona in the past as well, but nothing materialised at the time and he ended up staying at Manchester City.

Other clubs like Roma and Juventus in Italy are also keeping tabs on his situation since he can be a great option for any club in the world. He has a contract until 2025 with the Sky Blues, and could bring in a considerable fee if he leaves in the summer.
