The All New AYANEO AM02 Retro Mini PC
AYANEO initially introduced its lineup in November 2023, revealing design concepts without delving into onboard components. The unveiling of the AM02 Retro Mini now offers insights into how AYANEO plans to position the entire range, featuring AMD’s renowned Phoenix APUs. In terms of specifications, the AM02 Retro Mini boasts the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS, a favored choice among handheld device manufacturers due to its exceptional performance per watt.
The APU comprises 8 cores and 16 threads based on the Zen 4 core architecture, with 8 MB of L2 and 16 MB of L3 cache, reaching clock speeds of up to 5.1 GHz. Configurable with a TDP between 35-54W, it houses the Radeon 780M “RDNA 3” iGPU, equipped with 12 compute units running at 2700 MHz. The AM02 demonstrates impressive on-paper performance, and given its compact form, promises innovation.
Regarding its design, the AM02 Retro Mini replicates the iconic Nintendo NES, adopting a similar color scheme and structure. A unique addition is the dedicated 4-inch touchscreen, enhancing the device’s multifunctionality and providing a futuristic touch. While the small screen may not cater to gaming experiences, it serves well for displaying details like date, time, device temperature, and other specifics.
Adding to its uniqueness, the AM02 Retro Mini features a front-opening cover concealing its I/O ports, complementing the overall aesthetic. While specific port details are undisclosed, images suggest support for USB Type-C and Type-A, along with an HDMI connection. While the pricing for the AM02 Retro Mini remains undisclosed, AYANEO recently confirmed a launch date of January 18th, offering an “early bird” discount for crowdfunding participants.
