Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Axel Disasi from Monaco for €45 million. The centre-back will be the replacement for Wesley Fofana, who suffered an ACL injury and will be sidelined for a significant portion of the coming season.
The defender has agreed to a five-year contract with the Blues, with the option for a further season. The medical tests for the transfer are scheduled this week. Once the player completes them, and signs the contract, he will be officially presented as a new signing.
Axel Disasi to sign for Chelsea from Monaco
The 25-year-old will be reuniting with his former Monaco defence partner, Benoit Badiashile, who made the move to Chelsea during the January transfer window. Badiashile is currently out injured as well, but is expected back in time for the early part of the season.
Axel Disasi has spent three seasons with Monaco since joining them in 2020, and has established himself as a reliable option for the French club. His impressive performances have also led to him getting called up to the France national team, with whom he has earned four caps so far.
The defender is part of a growing French contingent at Chelsea which includes Badiashile, Christopher Nkunku, Malo Gusto and Fofana.
Manchester United and Newcastle United were also interested in signing Disasi, but did not launch an offer for him. The West London club have moved fast to sign Disasi and now have five starting centre-backs ahead of the new season.
