Nineteen years after the original became a cult classic, [Awarapan 2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Awarapan) has arrived — and it opened bigger than anyone expected. The Emraan Hashmi starrer collected an estimated Rs. 22 crore nett on its first day in India, smashing his previous solo-lead best of Rs. 11 crore nett set by Raaz 3 back in 2012.

## Awarapan 2 Opening Day Numbers

| Metric | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Day 1 Collection | Rs. 22 crore nett (approx.) |
| Previous Best (Solo Lead) | Rs. 11 crore nett (Raaz 3, 2012) |
| Top Markets | Delhi-UP, Mumbai, West Bengal |
| Release Timing | Coincided with Independence Day holiday |
| Projected Weekend | Rs. 75 crore nett+ |

## What Fueled the Big Start

The film built momentum steadily through the day, benefiting from a strong night-show push and the Independence Day holiday landing right after release. Delhi-UP led the charge as expected for this genre, while West Bengal emerged as a surprise strong performer alongside Mumbai.

Trade watchers note that Awarapan 2 arrives on a controlled budget, meaning recoveries are already healthy just one day in. With today’s Independence Day numbers expected to push collections toward Rs. 30 crore, the film looks set for a blockbuster opening weekend.

What makes this run particularly notable: the original Awarapan (2007) was considered a box office disaster on release before earning cult status over time — making this sequel’s opening-day success a rare turnaround story in Bollywood.
