Aurelien Tchouameni opens up after officially signing for Real Madrid

Aurelien Tchouameni officially signed his contract with Real Madrid on 14th June 2022 as he was presented in front of the Los Blancos fans. The 22-year-old will wear the No 18 shirt at Real Madrid, the number worn by Gareth Bale last season as he departs the club this summer.

After being officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player, Tchouameni talked about many things. Here’s what he told in the press conference:

“I talked to some other teams, but I was waiting for Real Madrid. I had no doubts.”

“As soon as the rumours started, (Eduardo) Camavinga immediately contacted me and told me I have to come, that I would make a lot of progress, and that this is the biggest club in the world.”

“After every Champions League round that Real Madrid went through this season, I texted my agent to tell him, ‘we have to do everything to sign for Real Madrid.’”

“There were other clubs that guaranteed me more playing time, but this is a challenge I want to take.”

On Kylian Mbappe

“Yes, Kylian Mbappé spoke to me, and asked me if I could come to Paris, but I told him I want to join Real Madrid, and he understood my decision and is happy for me.”

On his position

“I think my preferred position is at 6, but I can also play as an 8 or even higher up the pitch, I’m versatile.”

On Casemiro

“Casemiro has an exceptional career. When I was young I watched his games and he inspired me a lot. I don’t know if I’m his successor, I’m going to try to write my own story.”

On his trophy ambitions

“I told the president to make the trophy room bigger, because there are more titles to be won.”

On the boss

“I spoke to Coach Ancelotti a few weeks ago, he told me that Real Madrid is the best place to be.”
