Atletico Madrid are close to signing Matheus Cunha from Hertha Berlin, after failing to register an official bid for talented young striker Vlahovic from Fiorentina.
The deal is expected to be agreed between the two clubs in the next few hours, with many clubs also interested in signing the 22-year-old player. Paperworks could be completed as soon as the next few hours before the move is finalised.
The player has scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists for the club in 27 appearances in the Bundesliga last year. And he is expected to be the backup option for Diego Simeone, after Moussa Dembele returned to Lyon following the expiry of his loan deal at the end of the previous season.
Cunha joined Berlin from RB Leipzig in January 2020 for €18 million, and wears the number 10 shirt for the club. The youngster was also a part of the Brazil Olympics team that won the gold medal in Tokyo 2020, and he scored 5 goals in 3 games to help his country to the victory.
The fee demanded is in the region of €25 million for the player. Vlahovic was also a target for Manchester City, and he is not agreeing to a move to either club yet. Moreover, the fee demanded for Vlahovic is around €70 million, and Fiorentina are rigid on their demands.
As a result, Atletico are confident that they can deal one final transfer deal before the window slams shut.
