Memphis Depay expected to join Atletico Madrid very soon
The Dutchman is seen as the replacement for Joao Felix, who left to join Chelsea on a loan deal for the remainder of the season. Depay struggled to get game time under Xavi Hernandez, with several other players ahead of him in the pecking order.
And as a result, he decided to push for an exit. Reportedly, he only wanted to join the Rojiblancos, who could use some composure in front of goal. Personal terms have been agreed between Memphis Depay and Atletico Madrid, and the move will soon be made official once the formalities have been completed.
The forward joined Barcelona from Lyon as a free agent, and initially made a good impact for the club. But with the arrival of Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres and the return of Ansu Fati from injury, opportunities have been hard to come by for him.
Being at the peak of his physical ability, he could be a vital asset for Atletico Madrid at this stage in the season. They are out of European football altogether and can only focus on getting the best possible finish in the league. With a proven goalscorer like Depay, they can be much more realistic about their ambitions for the second half of the season.
