Having recently terminated Diego Costa’s contract, Atletico Madrid finds themselves a man light in attack. The Rojiblancos currently have Luis Suarez, Joao Felix and Ivan Saponjic as options for strikers in their 2-man front line, with Alvaro Morata and Diego Costa both out of the club.
Arkadiusz Milik was one of the names linked with the club as a potential replacement for the outgoing Costa since he is not in Napoli’s plans. However, that transfer is not likely anymore. The Polish striker finds himself frozen out of the squad, and it is doubtful whether he will ever play again for the Azzurri.
Napoli is demanding €15 million for Milik, and Atletico is reluctant to pay that kind of money for the striker.
Speaking on the topic on the Here We Go podcast on Patreon, Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio acknowledged that the Madrid club was looking for a striker already experienced in Spanish football to add to the strength of the squad.
Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose has now emerged as the top target for Diego Simeone’s side. The striker is currently on the list of favourable acquisitions and is appreciated by the board as well.
Jose has over half a decade’s worth of experience in Spain, arriving in the country 7 years ago today to join Real Madrid’s Castilla team. He has since found himself on loan to multiple clubs before sealing a permanent deal with Sociedad in 2016.
The current financial situation across the world inhibits the deal from taking place this transfer window, but towards the end of the season, something really could happen. .
