Atletico de Madrid to Evaluate India’s U-17 Squad: India’s U-17 football team is set to embark on a five-week exposure tour in Spain, where they will receive assistance from Spanish football giants Atletico de Madrid. The team, under the guidance of coach Bibiano Fernandes, is preparing for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2023, where they have been placed in a tough group that includes Japan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

  1. Thorough evaluation of individual players: The Atletico de Madrid officials will assess each player in the Indian team, identifying their technique and tactical errors, and providing feedback to help them improve.
  2. Exposure to top-quality training facilities: The Indian team will train at some of the best facilities in Spain, giving them access to world-class equipment and training methodologies.
  3. Six friendlies against quality opposition: The team will play six friendly matches against quality opposition, which will help them fine-tune their skills and build team chemistry ahead of the tournament.
  4. Collaboration with Spanish football experts: The Spanish FA will depute experienced women’s football coaches to India, providing the country with an opportunity to learn from Spain’s success in women’s football.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaubey, who visited Spain to discuss possibilities of collaboration, believes that the association with Spanish football will be a game-changer for Indian football. He stated that the collaboration with Atletico de Madrid will help the players improve their skills and tactical awareness beyond just playing warm-up matches there.
