There have been many protests and campaigns against ATK Mohun Bagan by the Mariners. ATK was formed in 2014 as Indian Super League came into existence. They were one of the best sides in the league having won the league 3 times in just 5 seasons.

Mohun Bagan along with East Bengal joined the ISL last season. Both the Kolkata clubs have a rich history and fall among the oldest clubs in Asian football.

However, Mohun Bagan merged with ATK and became a single entity known as ATK Mohun Bagan. This merger enraged all the Mohun Bagan fans, famously called Mariners. They saw this as a loss of their rich history.

ATK Mohun Bagan set to drop ATK and rename as RPSG Mohun Bagan

According to reports, the club officials are finally ready to remove ATK and rename the club as RPSG Mohun Bagan. The name of the sponsor preceding the name of the club is a common notion here, so it will somewhat give relief to the fans who can once again call their beloved club Mohun Bagan proudly.

Some of the Indian football fans also want ATK to come back as a separate entity. They are still the most successful club in ISL history despite being dissolved before last season. The higher the number of clubs in the league, the better it will be for Indian football.

So instead of the merger if Mohun Bagan and ATK play separately, it will be hugely beneficial for Indian football. The Mariners will also be happy and ISL will also get back its most successful club. But it is very unlikely to happen. So as of now, Mariners would be happy to hear about this possibility of getting their name back.
