ATK Mohun Bagan pulled off a remarkable comeback to maintain a 100% win rate in the Kolkata derby, defeating their arch rivals SC East Bengal 3-1 at the end of the 90. Here are the three key talking points from the game.
Kiyan Nassiri makes history
The 21-year-old came off the bench at the hour mark, and it took him only three minutes to equalise for ATK Mohun Bagan. Son of East Bengal legend Jamshed Nassiri, who helped his team win the 1985 Federation Cup, he has now made history for himself.
Kiyan Nassiri went on to score two more goals in stoppage time to earn all three points from the game, and also earn his first hat-trick in the process. He is now the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the ISL.
Heartbreak for SC East Bengal
The Red and Gold club initially had the lead in the second half, after Darren Sidoel’s deflected effort went into the back of the net from a corner. But, they would fail to add to their tally despite having a number of golden opportunities in the game. And those misses proved to be very costly.
East Bengal defended extremely well in the game, but a lapse in concentration in vital areas allowed Nassiri to take advantage.
The climb begins for ATK Mohun Bagan
ATK Mohun Bagan are now up to fourth in the table, with 19 points, and have played 11 games. They have two games in hand on the league leaders, Hyderabad FC, and are back to looking like solid contenders for the title this season.
