Design & Build Quality
The ASUS Vivobook Go 15 OLED is a slim, clean and lightweight laptop, measuring 1.79 ~ 1.79 cm thin and weighing just 1.63 kg. Its portability makes it convenient to carry around, especially considering its 15.6-inch form factor.
While the build quality is decent, made up of plastic, it doesn’t feel as premium as higher-end laptops but is solid, and for most budget buyers it will be good enough. Nonetheless, it offers a practical and travel-friendly design, the hinge is stiff, colors look great, and overall very much usable.
Display
The standout feature of this laptop is its impressive 15.6-inch OLED display. With a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, it delivers vibrant colors, excellent contrast, and deep blacks. The display boasts a 60Hz refresh rate and a swift 0.2ms response time, making it suitable for media consumption and photo editing. It also supports HDR content with a peak brightness of 600nits, ensuring a visually captivating experience.
So, if you are someone who has been waiting to buy an OLED laptop on a budget, this ASUS Vivobook Go 15 OLED could be a good choice. Using it for both daily web browsing, YouTube sessions, and Netflix, you will enjoy the quality of the display and considering it’s pretty bright, the display is its strong point obviously.
To verify ASUS’ claims we have done our tests of this display with our DataColor SpyderXPro:
As you see the Vivobook Go 15 OLED’s display easily lives up to the expectation and frankly, ASUS has indeed improved the OLED quality than it was previously on these budget notebooks last year. This OLED panel is similar to the ZenBooks from last year we measured and that goes to show this time, the OLED display is 100% DCI-P3 color accurate and of course, has rich contrast as well as going up to 400 nits of peak brightness.
If you are going into the market just because of the OLED display of this laptop, you won’t regret it for sure as we can say genuinely, this is one of the best displays in this price range easily. With low blue light emission, and deeper blacks and whites, you will fall in love with the laptop’s display for sure.
Performance
Powered by the AMD Ryzen 5 7520U processor, the Vivobook Go 15 OLED provides satisfactory performance for everyday tasks. However, due to its 4-core configuration, it may struggle with demanding workloads or multitasking. It’s best suited for basic usage, such as web browsing and productivity applications.
While it may not be the most powerful laptop, it offers decent performance for its price range and you are buying this Vivobook Go 15 OLED for the OLED display first and then the performance, so the quad-core chip gets the basic jobs done. If you also see the benchmark numbers they are not very good if you compare them against 6-core chips but are usable of course:
Here are some of the common synthetic benchmarks for your reference:
Vivobook Go 15 OLED Benchmark | Score |
Geekbench 6 Single-Core | 1345 |
Geekbench 6 Multi-Core | 4448 |
Cinebench R20 Single-Core | 446 |
Cinebench R20 Multi-Core | 1812 |
Cinebench R23 Single-Core | 1140 |
Cinebench R23 Multi-Core | 5005 |
CPU-Z Single-Core | 424 |
CPU-Z Multi-Core | 2203 |
As you see the benchmark numbers are not very convincing and it’s clear that this is a budget quad-core chip which in 2023 will give you some problems. So, anyone who is considering this laptop for heavy usage doesn’t expect much out of it and only basic to moderate users should go for this Vivobook Go 15 OLED.
Keyboard and Trackpad
The laptop features a backlit chiclet keyboard, which offers comfortable typing with adequate key travel. The backlighting proves useful for working in low-light environments. The trackpad, while not exceptional in quality, performs its intended functions well. It provides smooth cursor movement and accurate tracking for everyday use.
Audio and Webcam
The audio quality of the Vivobook Go 15 OLED is average, suitable for everyday use and media consumption. Similarly, the 720p HD webcam produces acceptable video quality for video calls and casual use. However, neither the audio nor the webcam offers any standout features or exceptional performance.
I/O and Connectivity
The laptop provides a broad range of I/O ports, including a USB 2.0 Type-A, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, HDMI 1.4, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. These ports enable seamless connectivity with various peripherals and external devices. The Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5 ensure reliable and efficient wireless connections.
Battery Life
The Vivobook Go 15 OLED impresses with its battery life. Thanks to the energy efficiency of the AMD Ryzen processor, the laptop can last up to 5-6 hours on a single charge in Standard mode and can even last up to 8 hours in whisper mode and lighter usage.
Additionally, its fast charging capability allows it to replenish its battery within an hour, providing convenient usability on the go. These numbers are commendable for a budget OLED laptop in 2023, so you can rest assured that the laptop’s battery will last if you are going out somewhere or have forgotten to carry your adapter.
Verdict
The ASUS Vivobook Go 15 OLED 2023 laptop presents a compelling value proposition for budget-conscious buyers seeking an affordable yet colour-accurate option. Its standout feature is the 15.6-inch OLED display, offering vibrant visuals and deep blacks. While the performance is suitable for basic tasks, heavy users may find it lacking.
The keyboard, trackpad, audio, and webcam deliver satisfactory performance without any exceptional features. The broad range of I/O ports and reliable connectivity enhance its usability. With commendable battery life and an attractive price point, the Vivobook Go 15 OLED is a recommended choice for students and users in need of an affordable OLED laptop.
