A lot of us who do need a desktop for work or play often cannot figure out how to build it or which component to go for, however, pre-built gaming PCs sometimes solve the problem for your complete. Currently, retailing for ₹1,33,990, this is slightly expensive but is it worth buying the pre-built gaming PC? Let’s find out:

Design & Build Quality

Though I am not a very fan of pre-built gaming PCs yes for people who don want any headache to make a new one by scratch then the ROG Strix GT15 is a nice-looking one. It has its unique design, is sleek in terms of overall form factor, has a good amount of lighting and has sturdy build quality.

Performance

Sporting an older 6-core Intel Core i5-12400F processor might raise some questions for you but it’s surprisingly good, however, I didn’t like ASUS has used 16GB DDR4 barebone RAM and not performance ones. So, though it’s upgradeable, we will encourage you to upgrade to faster and better quality in future.

In terms of SSD, you have a faster 512GB Gen4 SSD as a boot drive and 1TB HDD to store all your games, a 7200RPM one is good though for normal usage. Now you have the highly-loved NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics inside which I would say changes the game totally, as you know, this card is a very sweet GPU for most gamers.

Talking here about the raw performance of this ASUS ROG Strix GT15 gaming desktop, most gamers will be satisfied because the Intel processor performs quite well in day-to-day tasks. Not only for now but also if you plan to use this PC in future, you are covered because a 6-core chip should do well 3-4 years down the line.

In our dedicated review of this Core i5-12400F processor, we already told about its dominant performance and is a good Ryzen 5 5600X alternative. Though we used liquid cooling and DDR5 RAM, however for this ROG Strix GT15 gaming desktop has some performance differences, here are some numbers:

As we already said the RTX 3060 Ti graphics card is the fan’s favourite GPU because of its raw horsepower and has the best price-to-performance ratio in the whole RTX 30 series. In the productivity benchmarks you see some fantastic numbers thanks to the superb combo of Core i5-12400F and RTX 3060 Ti.

Even in 2023, compared against the mighty RTX 40-series which is again a bit costlier, this 8GB GDDR6 RTX 3060 Ti seems to be a good option overall.

See our detailed RTX 3060 Ti review for more info, however, overall, if you ask about the relative performance of this ROG Strix GT15 gaming desktop as a whole it would be good, ideal for basic usage. So, anyone who is looking for a higher-end workload should consider the i7 variant for future-proofing this variant though can be good for basic-to-medium users, casual gamers or students.

Gaming

Coming to the main aspect here, i.e. gaming the ASUS ROG Strix GT15 gaming desktop is carefully designed to give you the best gaming performance. Even though it’s a generation old but still performs very well even in 2023, it just slays 1080p gaming thanks to the RTX 3060 Ti which is powerful for QHD/4K gaming as well.

Now, let’s how the desktop performs in games where you have DLSS support, yes, NVIDIA’s DLSS could really help upscale performance without much difference in quality. We set DLSS at Quality and got decent uplift, frankly not needed when you are playing at FHD but if you play at QHD or even 4K, you can use DLSS and get good results.

Overall, in gaming, the ASUS ROG Strix GT15 is a great option for anyone who is looking for crazy FHD gaming numbers or even a good QHD gaming desktop. Made to last a couple of years down the line, having DLSS support to upscale future games is obviously a positive sign. If you are someone who needs good gaming performance and your price range is around Rs.1.2-3 lakhs then this ROG Strix GT15 seriously makes sense.

Thermals

Being a professional OEM, Asus has taken good care of the thermals with its innovative design of the ROG Strix GT15, doing usual tasks you won’t even hear the fans spinning and it only churns out when you do heavy workloads like gaming. Even in low-intensity games, the intelligent cooling does help and the cabinet fans only spin when it senses that heat is generated.

Though during gaming the fans go very loud, unlike the silent ones you can buy from the market, however, the aerodynamic chassis has widened vents that stealthily direct more cool air through the internal cooling system. So, most of the time, the temperatures of both CPU and GPU are in check, never crossing 80 degrees celsius.

Connectivity & I/O

Lastly, for connectivity & I/O, ASUS has left no complaints for you, on this ASUS ROG Strix GT15 you get one reversible Type-C (USB-C) port on the front with a bandwidth of 10Gbps via USB 3.2 Gen 2 for fast charging and data transfer. Also, you have a Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 1 port on the front along with headphones/mic jacks.

On the rear end though you have a plethora of ports, five Type-A USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, HDMI 2.0b port, and the GPU has its own 3x DP, and 1 x HDMI port. Overall, in terms of connectivity, you are covered and you also get the perfect combo of Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) (Dual band) 2*2 + Bluetooth 5.1, which again performs as expected.

Verdict

So, should you buy this ROG Strix GT15 gaming desktop with a Core i5 processor and RTX 3060 Ti? Well, if you are someone who is not familiar with PC building but still needs a Gaming PC which is both powerful and doesn’t give you any hassle this is a good option, however, for PC builders this is on the expensive side.

Though I have no complaints regarding the performance of this ASUS ROG Strix GT15 desktop and its design and connectivity, all aspects are good if it only could have been more aggressively priced it would be easier to recommend.

However, for the past few months, I have seen this desktop going on sale at around Rs.1.2lakh effectively and at that pricing, it’s a good overall package. For most users, it should solve all the gaming needs and day-to-day workloads, and also enjoy 3 years warranty on the device.
