ASUS has just taken the wraps off of its new handheld gaming console, the ROG Ally X, with a number of changes that make it seem almost like a brand new console versus its predecessor, the ROG Ally 2. Already one of the most advanced handheld gaming devices available, the ROG Ally X will come with upgraded specs and better design in an effort to further entrench itself in the premium gaming handheld complex.

The New ASUS ROG Ally X Handheld

The ROG Ally X is powered by a high-end AMD Ryzen Z1 APU, an 8-core, 16-thread APU which is based on Zen 4-core architecture, one of the most important features of the laptop. This handheld provides gamers with great gaming performance, clocked up to 5.1 GHz, and up to 12 RDNA 3 compute units iGPU built-in.

It also has up to 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory and even a full M.2 slot that can accommodate up to 1 TB of storage, providing plenty of space for gaming libraries.

That means users looking to hook up an external GPU to the ROG Ally X certainly have a pair of Type-C ports in the family, including one that’s of the USB4 (Thunderbolt 4) type. On the design front, ASUS has made some improvements, a bigger 80Wh battery, more power-efficient silicon, a new fan design, and a blacked-out color scheme for a more subtle look.

In addition, ASUS has redesigned the ergonomics of the ROG Ally X, using a new model of the Precision D-Pad, a new joystick design with improved durability, and reduced-size Macro M-Keys to make the product more comfortable. It comes with an FHD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, making gameplay a breeze.

You can preorder the $799 ROG Ally X now, which definitely doesn’t come cheap, but should give gamers the portable gaming experience they’re dying for granted everything works as advertised. Also, ASUS has debuted a new software solution, Armoury Crate SE V1. 0 to further enhance the functionality of the software suite. In July 2024, a more user-friendly UI, customization, and more capabilities are introduced as version 5.

In conclusion, with its powerful hardware, improved design, and enhanced user experience, the ASUS ROG Ally X handheld gaming console is a compelling choice for gaming enthusiasts looking for a premium gaming device that offers both performance and portability.
