According to reputable leaker SnoopyTech, the ASUS ROG Ally PC portable device will start selling for $599 and come in a basic edition with an AMD Ryzen Z1 APU, 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and a 256 GB NVMe M.2 SSD.
The most expensive edition of ASUS ROG Ally, which costs $699 and includes the Z1 Extreme, the same amount of RAM, and a 512 GB NVMe M.2 SSD for storage, was previously disclosed by SnoopyTech.
A few days ago, AMD formally outlined the differences between the Ryzen Z1 and Z1 Extreme APUs. Although they are both customized versions of the new AMD Ryzen 7 7840U APU, which will also power upcoming products like the AOKZOE A1 PRO/A2 and the AYANEO 2S, both were designed specifically for high-performance PC handheld devices. In each of these scenarios, AMD’s new APUs combine the RDNA 3 GPU and Zen 4 CPU technologies.
The Ryzen Z1 has 6 cores and 12 threads, 4 RDNA 3 graphics cores, 22 MB of total cache, and an estimated 2.8 Teraflops of processing power, according to AMD. Thanks to its 8-core/16 thread processor, 12 RDNA 3 graphics cores, 24 MB of total cache, and an estimated 8.6 Teraflops of computing power, which is slightly more than the PlayStation 4 Pro home console, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme is significantly more powerful.
The performance of the ASUS ROG Ally was effectively revealed for the first time thanks to benchmarks that AMD also shared.
Contrarily, the Z1 struggled with frame rate in some of these titles, including Grand Theft Auto V, Forza Horizon 4, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Even so, it will likely still be playable, albeit with a few more concessions.
According to reports, the ASUS ROG Ally weighs only 60g less than the Steam Deck (608g). Additionally, it has a native 16:9 1920×1080 7-inch screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz, support for adaptive sync, and 500 nits of brightness (significantly more than rivals and allegedly sufficient to block sun glares). Front-facing dual speakers that support Dolby Atmos cover the audio system. ‘Quiet operation’ is promised by the dual-fan cooling system.
Windows 11 and a customized version of the ASUS Armoury Crate software are already preinstalled on the device. The ROG XG Mobile eGPU, an external graphics dock that upgrades your configuration with the most powerful graphics card (the GeForce RTX 4090), can also be connected to the ASUS ROG Ally.
