Aston Villa have qualified for the Champions League for the the first time in their history after it was rebranded in 1991/92. They won the European Cup in 1981/82, and made their final appearance in 1982/83. After over four decades of failing to make it, they have finally found their stride under Unai Emery.
The former Arsenal, Villarreal and PSG manager has completely transformed the Birmingham-based club, guiding them to their second best points tally in the Premier League after the 74 points earned in 1992/93.

However, Emery’s contribution is not all. The arrival of former Sevilla sporting director Monchi at the club was also a key turning point in helping them build a structure. And with shrewd recruitment such as Pau Torres, Diego Carlos, Moussa Diaby, Leon Bailey and Emiliano Martinez, the club has been able to outperform their competition.
The stunning form of star striker Ollie Watkins has been one of the main reasons behind their success as well. The 28-year-old has scored 19 Premier League goals this season, among the best returns in the division.
And in spite of long-term injuries to key players like Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia, Villa have performed under pressure and have earned their place in Europe’s top competition next year.
